Laverne and Shirley, "Opening Sequence"

Pencil sketch, colored in Photoshop. I thought it would be great to do a series of illustrations about one of my favorite sitcoms, "Laverne and Shirley". You can see the opening sequence on YouTube by going here.

I pretty much jumbled the words to this rhyme whenever I said it along with them, "one two three four five six seven eight, shameel, shamambles, habahabacorporated". I did a bit of googling and found out the actual words are:

"One, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight! Schlemiel! Schlimazel! Hasenpfeffer Incorporated!" Schlemiel is Yiddish for an inept clumsy person. A Schlimazel is a chronically unlucky person. The difference between them can be described through the aphorism, "The schlemiel spills his soup on the schlimazel." Hasenpfeffer is rabbit stew from Germany. I guess Penny Marshall (Laverne) used to make up nonsense hopskotch rhymes as a kid, and this was one of them. The theme song is called "Making Our Dreams Come True", performed by Cyndi Grecco.

I remember thi sitcom. I love it. I think Penny Marshall is a great comediene. Those two guys irritated me but I think that was their role. This photoshop looks like a lot of fun. I like your Rejection and Acceptance images.

Thanks Ces! I thought both Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams were hilarious in their roles. I liked Lenny and Squiggy, too... hehehe. Thanks so much for your comments. I've been to your site, and think your work is just awesome!
